景気後退の長期化、大資本によるチェーン化が進行している昨今、個人でバーやカフェを経営していくのは大変難しい状況であり、 閉店に追い込まれる店も増えてきています。
こうしたお店の中には、様々な人たちをつなぎ合わせるサロンとして機能している空間も少なくありません。
一方において、個人で開業を目指している人、また自分たちの空間を持ちたいと思いつつも経済的理由・仕事との兼ね合い などで実現できない、という人は少なからずおられます。
「Common Cafe」は、そうした欲求を持つ有志を集め、各個人に無理がかからない程度の負担によって一つの空間を獲得、維持、 発展させていくことを目指しています。
また、不況が長期化する現在、企業によるメセナは曲がり角を迎えています。
行政による芸術文化政策も、財政状況の悪化とともに縮小の方向に向かっています。
これからの表現活動は、大きな力に支えてもらうことを前提にしては成立しないのではないか、そんな雲行きになってきています。
今回の「Common
Cafe」では、約20坪のスペースを、昼間はカフェ・夜はバーとして日替わりのマスターで運営しつつ、 ライブや演劇公演や展覧会をおこなっていく予定です。
経済的に自立した形で表現空間を運営すること、そしてその空間の「お祭り」としてさまざまなイベントを行うことにより、 空間の運営に関わるさまざまな立場の人々を集めることができる、本当の意味でパブリックな表現空間を作ることを目指しています。
今回のプロジェクトを通じて、経済のシステムに乗せることは難しいけれども貴重な空間、文化的役割を果たしている空間を有志によって維持する、という方法論を模索し、今後に活かしたいと考えております。
Prolonged
economic recession and ongoing cafe chains with a great capital
make it difficult for cafe owners or bar owners to manage their
houses. More private owners are cornered to give up their cafes.
A great deal of these cafes function as a salon to connect a wide
variety of people each other.
On the other hand, quite a few people are aiming at the opening
of a business or want to own a space for themselves, while they
cannot realize their desires because of economical reasons or incompatibility
with their regular business.
"common
cafe" is directed to gather volunteers who have such desires
and to obtain, maintain, and develop one space so that each one
may not overburden economically.
And with a prolonged economical depression, corporate philanthropy
has reached a turning point.
Policy for art and culture by administration is also being reduced
with the aggravation of the financial situation.
It is not likely that future expression activities will be materialized
provided that they are supported by a strong power.
For
"common cafe" this time, about 20 tsubo (66m 2 ) of space
will be applied as a cafe in the daytime and as a bar in the evening
by masters on daily shifts, while live concerts, theatrical performances,
and exhibitions will be held.
We
aim at creating the public expression space, in the true sense,
which can gather people in various positions in connection with
the management of space, by operating the expression space with
economical independence and by holding various events as "festivals"
of the space.
Through
this project, we want to grope for the methodology for keeping the
precious space, which plays a cultural role but is hard to apply
an economical system, by volunteers. We also hope to utilize the
methodology in future.
